Coastal Chic

This row home—the showpiece unit from our multifamily Beach Brownstone—merges a comfortable, coastal aesthetic with a chic urban vibe.

The brick throughout this four-bedroom, 3275 square feet unit, carries the thread of classic northeast brownstone from room to room. Natural materials—exposed beams, reclaimed wood, and stone—give the space an earthy, beachy feel. Other notable features include automated window shades, unexpected window seats, artisan light fixtures, a rooftop jacuzzi, and a pass-through window connecting the indoor living room to the open-air living and grill deck. Barstool seating on either side allows for both indoor and outdoor diners at a single table. The indoor side adds to the overall cosmopolitan effect, imparting a touch of “cool coffeehouse” to the family space.

The bar nook has overhead wine storage, antique-mirrored glass doors reflecting an ocean view, and a fridge and freezer combo, as well as two wine fridges hidden behind custom cabinetry. Vintage hand-carved Moroccan doors lead to the primary sleeping suite, which includes a wall-sized closet with hanging space and built-in drawers.

The home’s five bathrooms boast custom inset medicine cabinets, a hand-painted vessel sink, a vanity of reclaimed wood, and highly unique tile. The children’s bathroom is narrow, so it required a freestanding tub-and-shower combo, with brass rings mounted directly into the ceiling. Because of this, the entire room was designed to get wet, with the shower tiled in an assortment of rainbow terra cotta that extends all the way to the window frame (no jamb to disrupt the lines), up the back wall, and along the backsplash.

The kitchen is full of Old Word charm, with custom-stained, wide-planked European Oak floors, a farmhouse sink, and a French hood. The backsplash is Calcutta marble, and the counters are easy-clean porcelain.

The basement guest apartment has an industrial atmosphere, with polished concrete floors and exposed beams, pipes, and board-formed concrete. This downtown edge is softened with homey furnishings, accessories, and colors.

Overall, the home is tranquil, distinctive, and full of luxurious surprises.
