This 3,800 square foot home in Long Beach was a new build designed for Joseph Fournier, whose company, Joseph Fournier Design, is a frequent collaborator on projects throughout Manhattan Beach. In designing this 5 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom modern farmhouse, we honored the clients’ stated preference for an understated, pragmatic, but still hospitable aesthetic. The clients prefer neutral colors, so we incorporated varied textures throughout the home while activating timeless, worn materials to make every room feel cozy and sophisticated.
Several nuanced touches, scattered throughout the house, imbue it with spaciousness and versatility. A custom-designed Murphy bed allows the clients to use their guest bedroom for any number of functions when they’re not hosting family or friends; a well-lit mudroom with tiled floors and inset cubbies keeps everything tidy and organized; and industrial chandeliers in the main, open-concept living spaces ensure that the house can be illuminated to match a wide range of moods and contexts. The art deco staircase exemplifies the classic simplicity that the clients valued in their home and offers a subtle architectural centerpiece. The outdoor patio includes a pool, hot tub, and firepit that are sure to bring joy to hosts and guests alike.
The final result is a home that feels intuitive and inviting. Whether you’re there everyday or just for a short visit, you’ll find that everything is in its right place.
